The 19-year-old copped a knock against Williamstown at Casey Fields on Saturday, and Melbourne’s Elite performance manager Dave Misson said although Viney pulled up “very well,” he won’t be taking on the Saints in round one.
“The doctor’s very happy with his concussion signs since Saturday. He had a run [on Tuesday] and he’ll do some weights [today],” Mission told melbournefc.com.au.
“He’s likely to do some training on Thursday and then hopefully play again in the VFL on Saturday.”
Viney played 13 games in his debut season in 2013 and won Melbourne’s best young player award, averaging 17.5 disposals per game.
