St Kilda Captain Jarryn Geary will undergo surgery on his left leg tomorrow.

The 30-year-old fractured his fibula in the Saints game against Port Adelaide in Shanghai, his first match back from a recent right thigh injury.

“After consultation with doctors and specialists, we believe surgery is the best option for Gears,” GM of Football Simon Lethlean said.

“It’s extremely frustrating and disappointing, especially given Jarryn’s professionalism throughout his recent rehab and determination to return to playing, but incidents like this are the unfortunate uncontrollable reality of football.

“At the moment it’s looking like an 8-10 week recovery period, but we’ll know a bit more after the surgery.”
