SANDRINGHAM v WERRIBEE

Where: Trevor Barker Beach Oval

When: Saturday, 21 May

Time: 2pm

Last week:

Sandringham went down to ladder leaders, the Casey Scorpions, at Trevor Barker Beach Oval by 31-points. Prior to the loss, the Zebras were in a rich run of form with three wins in a row against Collingwood, Richmond and Footscray. It was an impressive consecutive run for Paul Hudson’s men, who won two of those games away from home.

Comparatively, fourth placed Werribee upset the Box Hill Hawks in a two-point thriller. At 4-1 and a 105.9%, the North Melbourne-aligned Tigers have only lowered their colours against premiership fancies Williamstown, losing to the Seagulls by 74-points in round five.

Players to watch:

Sandringham – Cameron Shenton

The St Kilda listed utility has been one of the Zebras’ most consistent performers so far this season, playing a key role up forward and using the football well when playing off half-back or through the midfield when required. In the last two weeks, Shenton has kicked six goals from eleven scoring shots against quality opposition in the Scorpions and the Magpies. Look for him to have an impact on Sunday.

Werribee – Aaron Black

The North Melbourne-listed key forward was instrumental in the Tigers’ win over Box Hill last week, kicking four goals from five scoring shots, along with 12 disposals and five marks. Black has kicked 13 goals from just four games this season, making him a dangerous proposition for any opposition. Expect the ever-reliable Tom Lee to get first crack on the 25 year old, a match-up to watch with great interest.

Conditions:

The weather is forecast to be dry but overcast on Sunday, reaching a top of 22 degrees.

St Kilda players in the squad:

Jack Lonie, Hugh Goddard, Tom Lee, Darren Minchington, Brodie Murdoch, Billy Longer, Luke Delaney, Cam Shenton, Bailey Rice, Eli Templeton, Brandon White, Nathan Wright, Lewis Pierce and Tom Curren.

Luke Dunstan, Blake Acres, Sam Fisher, Paddy McCartin, Dan McKenzie, Jack Sinclair and Jason Holmes have all been named in St Kilda’s extended squad to face Essendon. That squad will be trimmed to a final 22 at 5pm on Friday.

Notable opposition players:

Aaron Black, Scott Sherlock, Joel Tippett, Ben McKay, Sam Durdin, Ben Sharp, Ed Vickers-Willis, Robin Nahas.
