St Kilda pair Eli Templeton and Cameron Shenton will enter Monday night’s J.J Liston Trophy as Sandringham’s two main contenders for the VFL’s most prestigious individual honour.
Williamstown captain Ben Jolley, North Ballarat midfielder Nick Rippon, who won the award last year, former Melbourne skipper Jack Grimes, Port Melbourne captain Toby Pinwill and Coburg onballer Ozgur Uysal are a handful of the favourites.
Young Seagulls midfielders, Willie Wheeler and Michael Gibbons, who both led Williamstown to a commanding 46-point win over the Zebras in Saturday’s semi-final, are also tipped to feature prominently in the count.

Templeton played 17 games for the Zebras in 2016 and averaged 26.4 possessions, five inside 50s and four tackles. He amassed 30 or more disposals on seven occasions in a consistent season at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
Despite only adding two senior games this season – Round 1 against Port Adelaide and Round 4 against Hawthorn – the Tasmanian was on the cusp of St Kilda selection for a long duration, making strong progress in his third season at Linen House Centre.

After being moved forward early in the year, dangerous medium-sized utility Shenton thrived in attack for Sandringham in 2016, playing in a forward line that was often lacking a key target inside 50.
The South Australian transformed into a goal kicking machine, finishing second in the VFL goal kicking behind former Saint and current Coburg spearhead, Ahmed Saad.
Shenton finished the season with 42 goals to his name from 19 starts, including five three-goal hauls, three sets of four majors inside the last five weeks and a bag of six against North Ballarat.
Despite being named in Paul Hudson’s best players on 11 occasions and mounting a case for spot in Alan Richardson’s side in the second half of the season, Shenton couldn’t break into the senior fold to add to his career tally of 24 AFL appearances.
