On a night in which St Kilda Football Club celebrated the 50th anniversary of its 1966 premiership, the club elevated one of its favourite sons Robert Harvey to Legend status and inducted two former players Glenn Elliot and Stuart Trott into the Hall of Fame.
Dual Brownlow Medallist and club games record holder Robert Harvey was introduced by good friend and former teammate Tony Lockett at St Kilda’s Hall of Fame and 1966 Premiership Anniversary Celebration dinner on Saturday evening at Crown.
Harvey joins an esteemed group of Saints royalty that includes Darrel Baldock, Ian Stewart, Allan Jeans, Tony Lockett, Trevor Barker, Neil Roberts and Ross Smith.
The hardworking midfielder made his debut at the age of 16 in 1988 and after 383 appearances he retired in 2008 as one of the most decorated players in the game’s history; having won consecutive Brownlow Medals in 1997 and 1998, the club best and fairest award four times and earned All-Australian honours eight times.
Over his 21 year career, he was lauded for his incredible running capacity and ability to outclass and outrun opponents with his speed and endurance.
Earlier in the evening, Glenn Elliott and Stuart Trott were unveiled as the 49th and 50th Hall of Fame inductees in the club’s history.

A gifted centreman, Elliott replaced triple-Brownlow Medallist Ian Stewart in the early 1970s and emerged as one of the premier midfielders in the VFL. Elliot won the 1974 best and fairest, before claiming the Simpson Medal against Western Australia in 1976.
Following his football career, Elliott has become a long-time sports administrator as chief executive of SANFL club North Adelaide, A-League side Adelaide United, before recently returning to the club he played for, Glenelg, as CEO.
Widely regarded as one of the Mornington Peninsula’s finest football products, Trott spent eight seasons with the Saints before finishing his career at Hawthorn notching up a total of 200 VFL games.
The talented wingman played in two VFL Grand Finals; one with St Kilda in 1971 and one with the Hawks in 1975, although never tasted the ultimate success.
The 1966 premiership team was also honoured throughout the evening, escorted into the room by current players. Teammates Barry Breen, Kevin Neale, Brian Sierakowski reminisced about the victory on a panel during the function and all 1966 players in attendance posed for a team photo on stage at the conclusion of the event.
