Jarryn Geary will captain St Kilda in 2020, leading a six-man leadership group.

Geary takes the reins for the fourth consecutive year, with Seb Ross appointed vice-captain after the midfielder performed the role of acting captain for the majority of Season 2019.

The pair are supported by Tim Membrey, Dylan Roberton, Jack Billings and Bradley Hill in a leadership group which was voted in by the players, coaches and football staff.

Coach Brett Ratten said the group reflected the team’s chosen values.

“It was clear through the process we went through that these six guys were regarded as the drivers of the standards we are trying to reach,” he said.

Jarryn’s resilience and care for his teammates in what was a difficult year for him personally was at a really high level, and he was strongly backed to lead the club again this season.

“Seb Ross and Tim Membrey really stepped up last season when Jarryn was out injured and have continued to set a high benchmark on and off the field this pre-season.

“Jack Billings joined the leadership group last year when Dylan Roberton stepped down with his heart issue, and it's young leaders like Jack who are so crucial to our future.

“Despite missing the vast majority of the past two years, Dylan has remained an influential leader in our training, and returns to an official role with the knowledge he gained through being part of our coaching group.

"Hill’s selection demonstrates the impact he has made on the group in a short time and is a reflection of how hard he has worked to gain his teammates’ trust and respect.”

Ratten said there were several others who would play a key role in supporting the leadership group.

“We have brought in a number of strong voices over the past two years and have seen the impact of that through Dan Hannebery, Dougal Howard, Zak Jones, Paddy Ryder and Dan Butler all imparting their experiences from other clubs.

“We now have a large group of guys who are really vocal, both in meetings and on the track.

“I think it’s fair to say we’ve left too much to too few in recent years, and for us to take a big step forward, we need more guys driving the standards."
