Trevor Barker and Ted Whitten will be honoured by their past clubs in Round 12 this Friday night when the Saints and Bulldogs compete in the Barker Whitten Challenge at Etihad Stadium.

Established in 2000, the annual match is played in memory of the two club legends, who were both tragically affected by cancer. Ted Whitten died of prostate cancer in August 1995 while Trevor Barker died of bowel cancer the following year.

Both men have cancer charities named in their honour, with the aim of the game to help raise awareness and funds.

St Kilda is the current holder of the Barker Whitten Challenge plate, with the ledger sitting in St Kilda’s favour with a 7 - 4 advantage since the inaugural game in 2000.

Ted’s son Ted Whitten Jnr will present it to Western Bulldogs Captain Matthew Boyd if they are the winners on Friday night.
