THE GWS Giants will unveil its No.2 draft pick Josh Kelly this Saturday afternoon against St Kilda.
The Giants announced his selection via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.
Kelly is a medium-sized midfielder with elite decision making skills, great composure and a booming left-foot kick.
But his greatest attribute is undoubtedly his endurance. Kelly won the 3km time trial and the NAB AFL Draft Combine with a time that was the second fastest ever tested.
The 19-year-old starred in the 2013 National under-18 Championships, averaging 27 disposals and five marks per game.
From East Brighton in Victoria, he also enjoyed an excellent season for the Sandringham Dragons and Brighton Grammar School.
GWS coach Leon Cameron floated the idea of selecting Kelly earlier this week, following Rhys Palmer’s hamstring injury that will keep him sidelined for up to a month.
“Kelly is a player we will consider,” he said.
“He was pretty good in the NEAFL game last weekend and he played two really good games in the NAB Challenge before that. He’s a young player who we will consider. “
Last weekend St Kilda’s No.3 draft pick Jack Billings debuted and now the two Vic Metro boys have a chance to go head-to-head at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Kelly is the son of Phil Kelly who played 61 games for North Melbourne in the 1980s and won two Sandover Medals for East Perth.
He will become the 61st player to take the field for the Giants.
