St Kilda and Hawthorn will take part in the 15th annual Blue Ribbon Cup when the two teams meet at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.

Established in 1999, the Blue Ribbon Cup is played in memory of two Victoria Police officers Sergeant Gary Silk, and Senior Constable Rodney Miller who were killed in the line of duty at Moorabbin in August 1998.

Minister for Police & Emergency Services, the Hon. Kim Wells and the Secretary of the Police Association, Greg Davies will take part in a goal kicking challenge on field pre-game.  Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lucinda Noal will officiate the competition as a goal umpire.

Senior Constable Rodney Miller's son Jimmy, who was just weeks old when his father was killed, will present the Blue Ribbon Cup to the captain of the winning team at the end of the match.

A Silk-Miller Memorial Medal will also be presented to the player voted best on ground from each team by Kim Wells and Greg Davies.

As a mark of respect for all Victoria Police officers who have paid the ultimate price beyond measure for law and order in our community, players and on-field officials will wear reflective blue and white checkered armbands.
Patrons can also join commemorations by collecting special flashing wristbands as they enter the ground. A gold coin donation will assist the Blue Ribbon Foundation in its work to provide new and improved emergency facilities in Victoria's public hospitals that are named in memory of fallen officers.

The Blue Ribbon Cup is a very special event that not only pays tribute to our police members who fallen in the line of duty but also acknowledges the work and dedication of those who continue to serve.
