CONTINUING the tradition of exciting young Australian spinners who barrack for St Kilda, comes the news that Ashton Agar is a mad keen St Kilda supporter.

It is a sense of déjà vu for those who remember 20 years ago when Shane Warne burst on to the international scene in Australia’a 1993 Ashes tour, five years after he was part of the St Kilda Under 19s team.

Agar became an overnight sensation this week when he was plucked from relative obscurity to make his Australian debut in the First Test at Trent Bridge.

Selected as a spinner, Agar went on to send records tumbling with the bat, scoring 98 – the highest score by a no. 11 in the history of Test cricket before he was caught at deep mid-wicket.

Originally a Victorian before moving to Western Australia to pursue a First-Class cricket career, the former De La Salle student is an avid Saints supporter from way back.

And the connection to the Saints runs even stronger with St Kilda Merchandise Manager Dale Christie playing cricket alongside a young Agar at Premier Cricket club Richmond.

From all at St Kilda football club, we congratulate Ashton on his debut and wish him all the best for the future.
