GEELONG midfielder Jimmy Bartel could be set to miss this Saturday’s clash with St Kilda after he was cited by the Match Review Panel.
Bartel was charged with a Level Two Bumping or Making Forceful Contact from Front-On Offence (250 demerit points, two-match sanction) for Making Forceful Contact from Front-On against Adelaide’s Rory Laird during the second quarter of the Crows’ win.
Bartel can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Adelaide Crows Football Club, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points).
This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 250 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has two matches suspended within the last two years, which do not impact on this offence. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 187.50 points and a one-match sanction.
Bartel’s teammate James Podsiadly was also cited by the MRP, charged with a Level One Engaging in Rough Conduct Offence (125 demerit points, one-match sanction) for Engaging in Rough Conduct against Adelaide’s Richard Douglas.
But Podsiadly can be free to play against the Saints with the option to accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.
In better news for the Cats, Steve Johnson returns after a one-game suspension.
Port Adelaide’s Tom Jonas can accept a three-game ban for engaging in rough conduct against Dylan Roberton. Jonas was charged with a Level four rough conduct offence, earning him 425 demerit points and a four-game ban that can be reduced to three with an early plea.
