MELBOURNE radio station SEN has issued an apology to both St Kilda and Head of Football, Chris Pelchen for recent comments made by Dermott Brereton.

Brereton spoke on SEN drive program 'The Run Home' following the departure of Scott Watters as St Kilda coach last month where he made several unfounded allegations about Pelchen.

The Run Home's co-host Mark Allen issued an apology on Friday for “a number of comments about Chris Pelchen that we have no reason to believe were accurate or of any genuine basis.”

Allen made reference  to SEN’s principles of honesty, fairness, independence and respect.

“On reflection of Dermott’s comments about Chris Pelchen, we accept that in this instance we have not lived up to those principles and SEN, David (Schwarz – Allen’s co-host) and I wish to acknowledge this on our program today,” Allen said.

“More specifically and after due investigation, we would like to correct the following:

*We have no reason to believe that Chris Pelchen was responsible for sacking Scott Watters and that it was a decision of the board of directors at the St Kilda football club.

*We have no reason to believe that the recent departure from St Kilda by assistant coach Dean Laidley was in any way connected to Chris Pelchen.

*We understand that former football manager Greg Hutchison’s position at St Kilda finished as a redundancy and not as any consequence of Chris Pelchen, as was incorrectly expressed by Dermott.

*We have no reason to believe that Chris Pelchen was involved in a strategy to undermine or discredit Scott Watters as coach of the club.

*Nor do we believe that he was responsible for leaking confidential information about perceived tensions at St Kilda to Mark Fine of SEN. In fact, we acknowledge and accept that Chris Pelchen has never actually met or had any conversation or association with Mark Fine whatsoever."

Allen also corrected Brereton’s assertions that Pelchen had stated he was responsible for recruiting Lance Franklin to Hawthorn and for putting together Port Adelaide’s 2004 premiership list.

“We have no reason to believe that Chris Pelchen ever made such assertions,” Allen said.

“Therefore, SEN, David and I acknowledge that Chris Pelchen’s credibility and reputation after working in the AFL football industry for 30 years should not have been unfairly questioned on our program and on behalf of SEN we apologise unreservedly to him and the St Kilda football club for any hurt, embarrassment or damage that the interview may have caused Chris with respect to either his personal or professional reputation.”
