Caitlin Greiser has always felt at home close to goal.
Before taking up residence in the Southern Saints’ forward 50, the 20-year-old was a striker for South Melbourne in the National Premier League.
A handy one at that.
Greiser scored 12 times in 28 appearances in her final season on the pitch in 2017.
“When I was younger I had always wanted to play footy, but there was no pathway for the girls,” Greiser told saints.com.au.
“I ended up playing soccer because Mum didn’t want me to play with the boys. I loved it but after 10 years I think I needed a change.”
Greiser’s form with the round ball also attracted attention overseas.

“I was meant to go to America and play college soccer but I decided to stay mainly because I am really close to my family,” she said.
“I have always loved footy, so I wanted to give footy a go and I have been loving it.”
Before making the move to the Southern Saints, the key forward played for Melbourne University in the VAFA and VFLW as well as playing for the Western Jets.
And her position? Full forward.
Greiser quickly caught the eye of Melbourne University VFLW coach Scott Gowans after she booted 10 goals in four games.
“Being told after four games of VAFA, that I would be playing footy for the VFLW side, was pretty exciting,” she said.
Since moving to RSEA Park in November to be part of the Saints, Greiser has continued to improve.
She played a leading role in her debut for the red, black and white in round one, kicking two goals in the 5.13 (48) to 1.2 (8) win over Collingwood.

And her first goal?
A soccer off the ground.
“I think it just went over the pack and there was a few of us around the ball and they grabbed but they dropped it.
“So I just chose to kick it off the deck and I didn’t want to pick it up because I knew I would probably get tackled and didn't have time so I just kicked it off the ground.”
Although she added another goal to her tally against the Northern Territory Thunder in their round two clash, Greiser admits there is still plenty work to be done.
“I want to work on my fitness definitely,” she said.
“So I am trying to do that at training and working a bit harder to get my fitness level up and also my strength.
“I’m trying to strengthen up my body and I have been doing and bit of touch on Monday’s as well as getting some kicking in and some bodywork.
“That’s my main focus for now.”
