Zak Jones has been dealt another setback in his return from injury, with scans on Monday confirming a strain to his right quad.

The midfielder had been building towards a comeback from an Achilles injury and was on track to ease into the VFL within the fortnight.

Jones will be unavailable for at least the next six weeks.

“We’re really feeling for Zak, who has done everything possible during his injury rehab,” Acting General Manager of Football David Misson said.

“It’s no doubt a frustrating result given how diligent and patient he’s been while building his fitness back up, but he has our full support as he undergoes the next phase of his recovery.”

The Saints will be in line to regain Max King in time for Sir Doug Nicholls Round, but will be without Tim Membrey following a concussion sustained during Sunday’s match against Adelaide.

Jade Gresham is also expected to be available after being withdrawn from Round 9 with a knee complaint, while Jimmy Webster marked a successful return via the VFL last weekend, collecting 28 disposals six weeks after fracturing his cheekbone.

“It’s pleasing to be getting some soldiers back before the bye,” Misson said.

“Max had a really solid session at the club on Sunday and will train with the full group this week.

“We expect both Max, Jade and Jimmy to be available for selection.”

Meanwhile, Jack Steele will be assessed for a medial ligament strain after finishing Round 9 on the sidelines as a precaution.
