St Kilda Football Club has concluded its 2023 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period, acquiring established young talent and strengthening its position in the upcoming AFL Draft at the close of the 10-day window.

The Saints brought in Fremantle speedster Liam Henry in exchange for a future second-round selection and a swap of fourth-round picks, before Carlton’s Paddy Dow became a Saint earlier today in a four-way exchange involving the Blues, Bombers and Bulldogs.

As part of the latter deal, Nick Coffield will continue his AFL career at the Western Bulldogs, while Jade Gresham relocated to Essendon as a restricted free agent; St Kilda receiving pick No. 21 as compensation.

Additionally, as one of the final trades of deadline day, Jack Billings was traded to Melbourne in exchange for a future third-round pick.

“Liam is obviously a gifted athlete and he’s got some real speed,” List Manager Stephen Silvagni said.

“He can play wing, half-forward and through the middle, but we think he can play in a variety of positions and we’re fortunate to have him.

“Paddy has got some explosiveness out of stoppage, can win a number of stoppages as well and can also play forward at times.

“His second half of this year was very good, but he just got better and better as the season went on. I think it’s nice for our coaches to see that Paddy can get it done at senior level.”

The Saints now hold pick No. 13, 21, 40 and 92. heading into the 2023 National Draft, which will commence on 21 November.

It will be the first time since 2017 that St Kilda has had multiple first-round selections to its name heading into the National Draft.

“We’re really happy with where our TPP (salary cap) is both this year and the years to come and really comfortable that we’re going to have the capacity to do something interesting in the next couple of years,” Acting General Manager of Football David Misson said.

“We’ve got two good young players coming in, in Paddy Dow and Liam Henry. They really fit the profile we're after giving us speed around the ball.

It’s the first time in six years we’ve had two first-round draft picks, so for us it’s really about nailing that and making sure we get two more good players in.

“If the number of players coming in to train in the last couple of weeks is anything to go by, our players are pretty hungry to get better.”
