GOALS
Zebras: Keeler 3, Vesely, Lowe, Hipwell, Hall-Kahan, Campbell
Sharks: Lockhart 2, Banks-Smith 2, Edwards, Dixon, Dawson, Crossley
Paddy Dow
32 disposals, 11 clearances, four marks
Really strong game by Paddy inside the contest. Brought the ball inside 50 from stoppage, was clean, tough and his follow up work was at a high standard. His power game didn’t waver after missing 4-5 weeks.
Isaac Keeler
Three goals, 10 disposals, two tackles
First game as a full time forward this week and Isaac was able to impact well. There were a couple of efforts early on where he was out bodied easily but he stuck at it and kept up his work rate. He made the role his own in the last quarter, kicking two important goals but the more critical acts were in his defensive pressure where we saw a dive on smothers and a strong chase down tackle which lead to an important goal.
Zaine Cordy
20 disposals, 19 kicks, seven marks
Bit of a slow start from Zaine this week, but he turned it around in the second half. He was extremely influential, took eight intercept possessions, seven spoils and played well above the level. His leadership was very strong, great to watch.
Angus Hastie
16 disposals, three marks, two tackles
Angus got to some really good spots defensively and was able to join in on our attacking chains well. There were some good opportunities to be a bit cleaner by foot but all in all a good growth game for him. He’s got good energy around the team and brings his winning mentality each week which we love to see.
Matthew Allison
18 disposals, nine marks, 12 kicks
Matthew backed up a strong performance from last week. Whilst he didn’t execute on the scoreboard, he competed strongly in the air, was number one for score involvements and took two crucial marks behind the ball to help save the game for us. Strong performance.
Ben Paton
27 disposals, three tackles, three clearances
Ben spent two and a half quarters a half back for us this week. He got involved with our stoppage chains, used his hands well and drove his legs all day. He really stepped up when we needed some bursts in the midfield, his strength and hardness challenged Southport at the stoppage.
Tom Campbell
34 hitouts, 19 disposals, eight marks
Another strong game overall from Tom. He led really well for us and made the most of his chances in the air this week which was great to see. He hit the scoreboard as well for us with a crucial goal.
Oli Hotton
16 disposals, seven tackles, three clearances
Oli’s first half was spent as an inside mid where he showed some good grunt and work rate around the ball. We then moved him as a high half forward in the second half where he impacted well. Brought on an important chase down tackle the last few minutes to force a stoppage and allow us some breathing space.
Angus Mclennan
15 disposals, four marks, two tackles
Angus got hit hard in the first quarter and took a while to get going but he fought through to play his way under duress. Whilst he didn’t finish off his work as well as he usually does, he still intercepted well in tough conditions.
Max Heath
20 hitouts, 19 disposals, one goal
Slower start this week for Max. He got pushed under in the ruck initially but really grew in the second half. Very competitive for us in the air.
Liam O’Connell
10 disposals, two tackles, one mark
Another solid game for Liam this week as once again we saw him step up to the challenge as he put his body on the line multiple times. Whilst he wasn’t involved too much in our attack, his contest work and work rate was really strong. We love seeing his growth around leadership and communication within the team.
FOR THE ZEBRAS
Hugo Hall-Kahan
25 disposals, three tackles, one goal
Hugo played as a high half forward for us this week. You can tell he has the fundamentals down pat, he was front and centre, got up to defend, had three shots on goal and six score involvements. He’ll look to tweak his accuracy but overall a really strong game by him.
Vincent Zagari
11 disposals, three tackles, two clearances
First game in over two months for Vincent. We missed his structure, work rate and energy which he brought back in spades on the weekend. Was good to get the first one out of the way and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue to grow towards the back half of the year.
