The Saints’ new Head of List Management James Gallagher is confident of securing Sydney star Dan Hannebery’s signature this week, as things start to heat up in the Trade Period.

Gallagher confirmed on the Drink it Through Podcast on Monday afternoon that the two clubs had met on Day 1.

“That was one of the sort of five-minute meetings on (Monday),” he said.

“The positive there is that both sides – us and Sydney – we’re pretty much on the same page, so we’re not poles apart with what our expectations are of what a fair trade looks like for Dan.

“All clubs have got a few different moving parts this week, we’re sort of waiting on a few things to be confirmed, and then we’re hopefully expectant that we can get a fair deal done for Dan towards the back-end of this week."

The ex-AFL/SANFL footballer-come-banker also detailed the strategic side of his approach to the Trade Period.

“We had a pretty clear strategy going into this Trade Period, with some certain areas of the ground that we wanted to improve,” Gallagher said.

“My negotiation style is a little different to some others – if you can find some common ground and a win-win for everyone, that’s probably more my approach, rather than being too big-headed about it.

“As long as we get out of (a trade) what we need to get out of it, that’s what we should focus on – what does success look like for us? – and leave that as our focus.”
