St Kilda Football Club champion Nathan Burke has been elevated to ‘Legend’ status at the club’s Hall of Fame event on Thursday night.

Burke became the club’s ninth ‘Legend’, joining the likes of Darrel Baldock, Tony Lockett and Trevor Barker as immortals of the red, white and black.

The event also saw teammates Lenny Hayes, Max Hudghton, Stephen Milne and Peter Everitt inducted into the Saints’ Hall of Fame.

Burke was originally inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008, after a decorated 323-game career.

The epitome of courage, loyalty and selflessness, the midfielder won three Trevor Barker Awards, was named an All Australian four times, and was universally admired across the competition.

Burke was adored by the St Kilda faithful for his attack on the contest, while his trademark helmet became almost as iconic as his No. 3 guernsey.

Burke co-captained the Saints for three years before assuming the mantle on his own for a further two, and he was the Saints’ games record-holder before being surpassed by long-time teammate and great friend Robert Harvey in 2006.

The famous No. 3 finished third in the Brownlow count in 1996 and fourth in 1997, while he also captained Victoria with distinction at a time when State of Origin dominated the football landscape.

Burke’s legacy continues for the Saints through his involvement with St Kilda’s AFLW side, with his daughter, Alice, a potential father-daughter recruit.
