The Saints have secured two prized key position targets after completing a trade with Port Adelaide.

Young gun Dougal Howard and experienced ruckman Paddy Ryder today joined St Kilda, with the Saints also acquiring the Power’s No. 10 draft pick and their future fourth-round selection.

In exchange, the Saints passed on draft picks No. 12 and 18, as well as the club’s future third-round selection.

Ryder joins St Kilda after 243 games for Essendon and Port Adelaide.

The trade sees the 31-year-old return to Melbourne after four years in South Australia.

The All Australian’s recruitment will provide vital experience, depth and flexibility to the Saints’ big man stocks and support the development of Rowan Marshall.

Howard comes to Moorabbin after 43 games for Port Adelaide, where he emerged as a promising key position talent.

After a break-out 2018 campaign playing predominantly as a key defender, Howard was given a leadership role in 2019 which saw him captain the Power in Round 9.
