The Saints added two flyers in Melbourne’s Cat Phillips and Adelaide’s Jess Sedunary before the 2.00pm AFLW Trade Period deadline.
Phillips and Sedunary will not only add pace but AFLW experience, with both playing significant roles with the Demons and Crows respectively over the past three seasons.
Sedunary, a fleet-footed forward, was part of the Crows 2017 AFLW premiership team, while Phillips made her name as a hard running midfielder after crossing from the sport of ultimate frisbee.
SIGNED SEARLE DELIVERED: Peta Searle makes history as first Saints AFLW Senior Coach
The dynamic duo follow Brisbane pair Kate McCarthy and Nat Exon, and Collingwood youngster Darcy Guttridge, who signed with the Saints during the trade period.
Rising star nominee Courteney Munn also returns to the Saints after playing with North Melbourne in 2019.
The key forward bagged four goals on debut for the Kangaroos after being recruited from the Southern Saints VFL Women’s side.
Munn joins Rhiannon Watt (Carlton), Ali Drennan (North Melbourne) and Selena Karlson (Western Bulldogs) who return to the club after being drafted on the back of their form with the Peta Searle-coached Southern Saints in 2018.
Rounding out the squad are three highly talented youngsters with Ali Brown (Southern Saints), Isabella Shannon (Dandenong Stingrays), and Molly McDonald (Dandenong Stingrays) all committing to the club under the AFLW pre-listed player rules.
WATT RETURNS HOME: Southern Saints B&F winner signs on
The 12 girls form part of the Saints’ initial squad with Searle announced as senior coach earlier this week.
Head of Women’s Football Jamie Cox said the club was excited by the calibre of players already assembled for first ever St Kilda AFLW women’s team.
“To have brought in nine girls through the trade and expansion signing period is really pleasing,” he said.
“A number of the girls have genuine pace and will ensure we play a really exciting brand of football.”
“We’ve added some quality players and leaders from other clubs, and also welcomed back five players who were part of establishing a really strong culture at the Southern Saints in 2018.”
The club will have the chance to the squad through the upcoming free agency period, as well elevating players from the Southern Saints VFLW team, with the list build culminating in the National Draft in October.
