St Kilda’s injury list remains in a steady position going into the home stretch of the season, with young gun Mattaes Phillipou edging closer to a return, one of several Saints tracking well following earlier set backs.
“Overall, we’ve remained relatively healthy when it comes to long-term injuries this year, seeing the majority of players make prompt and well managed returns to play,” EGM Football David Misson said.
“After a frustrating setback, it’s been positive to see Mattaes work through his rehab after re-aggravating his plantaris injury. He’ll be a welcomed addition once available, alongside Dougal Howard who is also tracking well in his hamstring recovery.
“We’ve also been pleased to see Paddy Dow and Zaine Cordy make strong returns through the VFL after suffering significant injuries early in the year. It’s a real testament to our medical and strength and conditioning staff who’ve done a fantastic job supporting their recoveries, along with the players’ individual dedication to their recovery.”
Dan Butler will see specialists this week after dislocating his elbow in Sunday’s loss.
The incident occurred just before half time, with the small forward subbed out of the game almost immediately following the incident.
“Dan never hesitates to put his body on the line for his teammates and this is another, albeit very painful, example of that dedication,” Misson said.
“We’re currently allowing the injury to settle and Dan will seek further medical advice later in the week. From there we will be able to ascertain a more specific timeline.”
Additionally, Isaac Keeler and Jack Carroll will enter the rehab group after facing minor setbacks late last week.
