Jonathon Marsh and Nick Hind have thrust themselves into Round 1 calculations after starring for Sandringham in Saturday’s VFL practice match.

Marsh and Hind, with the pair swapping between midfield and attack throughout the match, led from the front as the Zebras held off Collingwood.

Ben McGlynn’s men piled on four goals in as many minutes to finish the third term and take control of the game.

The visitors then withstood a late Collingwood comeback to hold on for a two-point win.

Marsh and Hind were the standouts for a young Saints’ contingent, with the former bagging two goals and setting the standard with his second efforts.

Hind was just as influential, turning on the after-burners on more than one occasion to ignite the Zebras.

The ever consistent Nathan Brown was a rock in defence, winning countless one-on-one battles and, along with Shane Savage, marshalling the side with his voice.

Playing his first full match of the pre-season after a half in last week’s scratch match against the Hawks, Matty Parker bagged two majors, including goal of the day in the third term.

Jack Bytel also collected solid numbers in just his second outing in 18 months.

Jack Bytel is gunning for a 2020 debut.

The young Saint warmed into the contest and matched it with Collingwood’s inside bull Brayden Sier for much of the afternoon.

Young forward Jack Mayo kicked three goals to highlight his potential, while Ryan Abbott impressed in the ruck.

Despite being named in the original VFL practice match side, Josh Battle and Ed Phillips were late withdrawals after being elevated to the Saints’ senior side for Sunday’s Marsh Series game with the Magpies.
